The NY Funders Alliance aims to support and foster effective philanthropy in our communities by developing educational programs and providing spaces for information and knowledge sharing for leaders from grantmaking institutions within our region.

Does NY Funders Alliance distribute grants?

No. NY Funders Alliance does not distribute grants or financial awards. Additionally, we do not pass on project proposals to our members or make recommendations on behalf of grantseeking organizations.

Can I become a member?

Foundations and organizations for which charitable grantmaking is a priority activity, corporations that make substantial grants for charitable purposes in New York are eligible for NY Funders Alliance membership. A summary of membership “categories” includes: independent philanthropists, independent foundations, family foundations, corporate foundations, corporations with giving programs and grantmaking public charities. For more information on becoming a member, click here.

Do you offer events for nonprofit executives, fundraisers and other professionals?

While most programs are exclusively for funders, from time to time we do host significant programs for the community at large. The ‘open registration’ programs (in-person gatherings, workshops and webinars) bring together the broader community of nonprofit executives, professional advisors and philanthropists. Past programs featured national experts, award-winning authors and scholars. Topics have ranged from Sustainability for Nonprofits to Data and Discussion of Next Generation Major Donors to programs focused on state and local funding.  These programs are advertised on the events page and/or the Grant Seekers Tab.

What is the Library Partnership?

Grant seekers across New York State can access Foundation Directory Online at no cost through partnerships with local libraries. Click here for more details and to find your closest library.

Can I attend a program if I am not a member?

NY Funders Alliance does allow non-member funders to attend its programs. The non-member attendee must be in the business of providing funding/grants to the general community for specific purposes. The member fee (vs. non-member fee) may vary.  If you are a nonprofit / grant seeking organization, see item #4 above. From time to time, we do host joint events for our members and their grantees with the intent to strengthen relationships or partnerships.

Where can I find a list of NY Funders Alliance members?

We do not share contact information for our members with the public. For a list of member organizations, please visit our membership directory.
